I have been weaving for almost 5 years. I have adapted the basic process of weaving to create a contemporary Maori art. Korari is a wonderful medium to work with. Once the fundemental techniques are mastered, you are only limited by your imagination.
I am Maori/Pakeha, a woman and a mother, all of which I am strongly influenced by. Although my designs are contemporary, I am inspired by traditional patterns, my peoples mythology, papatuanuku and whanau. I try to encompass all of these things within my work. I continue my journey, deeply enriched in culture, exploring raranga, with a profound knowing that Maori weaving is a vehicle for connecting the past to the present, and the present to the future. I weave for those who have come before me, those who walk with me, and for those who are yet to come.
